Text-to-911 is available throughout Massachusetts. A voice call remains the fastest and most efficient way to communicate with emergency services whenever it is safe and possible to call.
How to text 911
- Open your phone's normal text messaging application.
- Enter 911 as the recipient.
- Send your location, including the town and address or a detailed description of where you are.
- Briefly explain what is happening.
- Answer the telecommunicator's questions and remain available for additional messages.
Important limitations
Avoid group messages, oversized messages, pictures, video or emoji. Text delivery can be delayed, so use a voice call whenever possible.
