NMRECC Uses New Translation Capability to Assist Spanish-Speaking Caller

NMRECC successfully used a new translation capability on a police business-line call, expanding language access beyond traditional 911 calls.

Northern Middlesex Regional Emergency Communications Center recently completed the first successful use of a new translation capability for a caller contacting a police department business line.

The service allows a dispatcher to type a response in English and have it delivered to the caller in another language by voice. The caller may continue speaking in their preferred language while the dispatcher receives translated audio and text.

NMRECC began using the system in July 2026. Following this successful use case, additional dispatchers will be trained on the capability.
